First week’s review
We’re back in town! This week’s review was brought to you by Nurse and Smurkej, a big thanks to them! Actually, I’ll likely have to thank them every week
Anyway, here is the review and the video you’ve been waiting for!
Enjoy!
Clanbase’s Nationscup caused a lot of interference in tonight’s schedule, which resulted in only one Division 1 game unfortunately.
K2 on paper look like one of the weaker sides of division 1 but if their performance vs Asgard on CP9 is anything to go by then they may well prove a lot of people wrong. The map was typical division 1-esque CP9 stuff, lots of defending and lots of midding. Eventually Asgard broke the seal through masterJP in the 13th minute period, can’t quite say whether this cap was Quake in poetry because his pov wasn’t being followed. Asgard then sat back more and tried to defend their lead but K2 kept pushing and pushing and with the clock running down managed to relay home the equaliser and level the score at 1:1. bandit picked up the flag and took out two Asgard players before dieing at enemy grenade. HT picked the flag up and made it as far as mid before himself getting killed and finally cypresss picked the flag up, battled his way through mid high and managed to keep K2 from looking like early division 1 relegation victims. Q3WCP5 was all Asgard. K2 introduced termi in this game but I think it offered little or any benefit to the K2 team because he was pinging on average 70-80 throughout most of the 20 minutes. Therefore some could argue that they were slightly handicapped from the beginning. As the minutes ran down and the clock ticked on Asgard were in control of the map, collecting most of the Quads throughout the game, something K2 were really struggling to get a hold of. Both teams got to mid in time but just about every time Asgard managed to shrug the efforts of K2 off and accordingly got Red and began attacking. With this control Asgard made the most attempts in stealing K2’s flag but it wasn’t until the 12th minute period that Dante managed to make a successful cap and broke the deadlock in doing so. The game continued in the same fashion until Dante dented K2’s hopes of getting something out of the map and made it 2:0 with a smooth and convincing flag run.

On Q3WCP5, the battle between CoD and sh was focused on the red armour and powerups although they denied each other everything. The small advantages went to CoD who came very close to scoring a few times but didn’t succeed. Sheepheads tried to direct the game towards the end, but they were not able to score either. On the second map, Q3WCP9, CoD had the game under control until about the 15th minute. Around half time, they managed to take the lead and repeatedly tried to increase that. Sh hit back and equalised in the 15th minute, along with a rebound. Chaos in the CoD base allowed them to push that to a 3-1 in the 16th minute. The map ended on a very open battle in which Sh took the longer end and won with 4-3.
The other division 2 game between Kow and RK was exceptionally played on a Wednesday. Normally we don’t agree with any day other than a Sunday but due to a lot of CB conflicts plenty of games were postponed. Q3WCP5 proved to be RK’s map. No matter how hard KoW tried, it was the Polish side that kept the initiative which resulted in 3 caps. Han broke the ice with a sneaky run which confused the enemy team enough to keep the road free to capture. Kaboom scored another two after finishing wh1zz’s runs. While CP5 might have been a bit onesided, Q3WCP9 provided us with a lot of interesting actions. RK started this one with the same agility as on previous map, but this all came to an end when fo_tbh did a crucial holy shit on Hanti. The turning point in the map. KoW, now fully warmed up, built up a lot of pressure on the RK defence. Eventually that let to two caps and they kept it that way until the very end.

The DX – DS game was always going to be interesting as both sides firm favourites for the Division 3 title. Both teams are fairly well equipped with talented players and it was always going to be close from the outset. For the first seven minutes DS were in control of all the power ups yet any stacked up quad runs were to no avail. DX capped first and they could have done so a lot sooner if it weren’t for some defensive minded action from smurkjeh; after collecting RA and enemy’s YA it would have been easy to follow suit and steal the enemy flag. However, noticing that DX had the DS flag he went high (enemy side) at mid and killed the flag carrier as well as two other DX supporting players to return the flag home. DX continued to pile on the pressure and made a fast cap around the 9 minute mark. Rectuman gave DjHell the haste and he duly took both this and the DS flag and made it home with lightning pace to make the score 1:0. DS didn’t hang their heads and kept on pressuring the DX defence in relentless fashion, quickly making it 1:1 in the 13th minute through a great flag run from cT who flowed easily through low and shot-gunned a DX player on the way into his base. Q3WCP9 was more open than CP5 and DX took advantage of an unorganised DS outfit, struggling to cope with some tactical issues. Throughout most of the game DS were attacking with four players which will likely go someway to explaining the end result. DX got the capping underway first through Rectuman who stole the DS flag, ran to mid and cunningly rocket jumped to high making the last half of his flag run a lot easier. Fulgore then produced the best cap of the game to equalise, rocket jumping through mid and off the side of home base onto the flag, making the score 1:1. Some fierce fragging later and endless mid control by DX there was a cross steal situation where cT was carrying DX’s flag and Rectuman DS’ flag. cT was killed in the furore and Rectuman consequently coasted through high and got home making the score 2:1. Another cross steal situation occurred around the 13 minute period which DX quite luckily won and Shogun was there to seal the game for DX at 3:1. Any attempt for DS to cap more was always going to be difficult, especially against, at times, three or four DX members defending in base.
QL started fully awake in their clash with dwc. Their first cap came right in the first minute. They kept pushing their opponent and eventually won the first map with 5-2. Q3WCP9 continued in the same way and dwc didn’t really get a chance to strike back. QL finished convincingly with a 7-1 victory.
The tooFAST guys had the better start against [5] on wcp5 and managed to get an relatively easy cap through smv. [5] suffered from some bad luck on the other hand as Cerks got stopped a few steps away from the cap. Meanwhile smv finished his hattrick by scoring two more through some clever playing, ending the map in a 3-0 win. Q3WCP9 evolved into a tough game in which [5] was just that little bit ahead all the time, enough to achieve a victory with the key player being N3mo this time. After struggling with some ping problems, he took his team to the lead with 2 caps, resulting in a 2-3 score.

Prost are probably one of the most underestimated teams in the Stickrunners league because they can and have been known to cause quite a few upsets here and there, playing on the complacency of their aggressors. M have strengthened their team as of late by recruiting Grizzly who, to be fair, is probably of a higher skill set than most of the players in division 4. And so everything was set to be an interesting game, starting with Q3WCP5. Cross steals were in their abundance here on this map and you know that when this happens there’s usually a cap for one team or the other. Although there were 5 caps in this game it wasn’t until the 8th minute that the deadlock was broken and Poli, putting M into the lead by taking the enemy flag, swooping low, stealing the enemy’s Yellow Armour and then battling his way along lower mid to give M the lead. MadMarc was sitting on the back of this cap and took the enemy flag as soon as Poli had scored. He went high and got back into his home base to be greeted by three Prost players. Prost took the flag and were making their way out high but MadMarc confidently exhibited a nice display of railing, killing the flag carrier and damaging the supporting players. Prost managed to get the flag out of the base in the end but M were too much and MadMarc was able to kill the flag carrier who for some reason came running right up to him near Rail. There was another cross steal between Poli and lausbub but the M attacker managed to win it for his side. Prost never gave up and their resilience showed by trying to stage a comeback, although unsuccessfully. Lausbub got the enemy flag in the 13th minute, ran low and made the score 3:1. A few minutes later Bucko managed to get the flag out of the base for Prost, getting as far as enemy shot gun low before dieing, lausbub was there who ran to RA and died and then Nurse picked it up, ran low, and capped to make the score 3:2. Q3WCP9 was easier for Prost, managing to win convincingly 4-1 from an excellent attacking performance by lausbub, grabbing a hatrick for the Prost team. For the first 5 minutes there weren’t any caps but Prost were always looking the more likelier of the two teams to brake the deadlock. Lausbub achieved this in the 6th minute, taking the enemy flag and capping through low. A couple of minutes later lausbub was there again, leaving the enemy base high with their flag and switching to low by which time M had stolen Prost’s flag setting up a potential cross steal cap although M’s chances of winning this fight were cut short, their flag carrier killed enabling lausbub to make it 2:0. A few minutes later lausbub nearly got his hatrick but was fragged, dropping the flag for Greeny to bring home making it 3:0 and the game all over. M got a consolation cap through a nice run from MadMarc at low, popping one of the Prost players on his way through and making the score 3:1, but any chances of a comeback were diminished when lausbub brought home his 3rd cap and sealed the win for a convincing Prost team.
!nfinity and 303 met as two equals, this became clear on both maps. On Q3WCP5, 303 kept taking the lead but !nfinity managed to come back all the time, although it was a bit tricky for the Germans at times. Around the 16th minute, 303 scored the 2-1, followed by a crosscap situation. However, !nf put the enemy carrier under heavy pressure and was able to return in time to score the 2-2. Q3WCP9 was the other way around with !nfinity being ahead all the time and with 303 in pursuit. At the 18th minute, the scoreboard displayed a 2-2 tie. !nfinity showed us some of those typical last minute actions and started to roll over their opponents to score not once, but twice with a 4-2 victory as result.
To everyone’s surprise, ddly took a clear win on both maps against TS. The Russian team had some difficulties raising 5 people so both sides agreed on a 4v4. ddly steamrolled into the TS base and captured about every two minutes. Their better map control led to a clear 1-8 victory. Q3WCP9 is more of a Tuda Suda map however, an early cap brought them ahead at the start of the game. Although their concentration and motivation appeared to be missing today. Ddly’s attacks became harder and faster. They came back and took over in the final half of the game to a 5-2 victory for the Lithuanian team.
